Frequently Asked Questions

Compatibility

Which pistols does the ISPT™ fit?

ISPT™ products are made for a wide range of pistols beyond just the 1911 platform — including Browning Hi-Power and 1911-22/1911-380 models, Kimber Micro and Solo Carry, SIG Sauer P238/P938, Colt Mustang, Tokarev TT-33, Zastava M57, and Staccato, among others. Because exact fitment depends on your specific model, the fastest way to confirm your match is the Compatibility Finder.

Which 1911-style pistols does the ISPT™ fit?

Most 1911-style pistols share close enough frame and slide dimensions that a single ISPT™ often fits many different manufacturers at once — our "All single-stack 1911s" fitment, for example, covers over a dozen brands on its own. A handful of models (GI-pattern, TRP, double-stack/2011-style, and a few others) use their own dedicated fitment instead. The Compatibility Finder will tell you exactly which ISPT™ is right for your specific model.

How do I find the exact ISPT™ for my pistol?

Use the Compatibility Finder — search by manufacturer or model, and it will show you the exact ISPT™ product built for your pistol, along with every other manufacturer/model that shares the same fitment. It's the fastest and most reliable way to confirm compatibility before you order.

Product Materials

What is Mylar® polyester?

Mylar® is a durable, chemical-resistant polyester film widely used where a thin, flexible, and long-lasting material is needed. It's the material used in most ISPT™ products, chosen for its combination of thinness and durability.

What is Rowlux® polycarbonate film?

Rowlux® is a specialty polycarbonate film used in select ISPT™ products for its own combination of durability and flexibility.

Product Durability

How many uses can I expect from my ISPT™?

Durability varies by material: .007-inch Mylar® products are rated for approximately 75 disassembly/reassembly cycles, .010-inch Mylar® (Elite) products for approximately 100 cycles, Rowlux® polycarbonate products for approximately 40 cycles, and playing-card-style products (such as the Dead Man's Hand) for approximately 40 cycles. Results may vary by use and handling — replace your ISPT™ once you notice wear-through beginning.

Returns & Refunds

What is your return policy?

Contact questions@idiotscratch.com within 30 days of your purchase and we'll make it right — usually with a refund or replacement, handled case-by-case. In most cases you won't need to send anything back. Full details, including Custom Engraved and Dead Man's Hand products, are on our Returns & Refunds page.

Is the ISPT™ guaranteed?

Yes, within the bounds of reasonable wear. Expected cycle life varies by material — see “How many uses can I expect from my ISPT™?” under Product Durability for specifics. If something isn't right with your order within 30 days of purchase, contact questions@idiotscratch.com.

Is We-deas Inc. responsible if my pistol still gets scratched?

The ISPT™ is designed to significantly reduce the risk of an idiot scratch, but no product can guarantee against every possible scratch — especially if it's used incorrectly, forced, or left out of position during disassembly or reassembly. By using the ISPT™, you acknowledge that We-deas Inc. is not liable for any scratches, marks, or other cosmetic damage that may still occur to your firearm. See our Terms of Use for the full liability disclaimer.

My package is lost — what do I do?

Email questions@idiotscratch.com and consider checking with your local USPS office, since they can sometimes see delivery details we can't. We work directly with USPS and can often ship a replacement before USPS completes its own claim process.

Company Information

What is an "idiot scratch"?

It's the common cosmetic mark left on a 1911-style pistol's frame when the slide stop slips during disassembly or reassembly. The ISPT™ was created specifically to prevent it.

Where is the ISPT™ made?

Proudly made in the United States — conceived, developed, patented, and manufactured domestically.

Who is We-deas Inc.?

We-deas Inc. is the maker of the ISPT™, founded by Dan Wray, a longtime collector and student of the M1911 and M1911A1 platform. The product was born out of Dan's own decades of hands-on experience with these pistols — read the full story on our About page.
